Lindsay Turmelle was sentenced to 90 days in county jail and 90 days of home detention for the accidental death of Christine Hawk Embree, a Carlsbad mother. In August 2022, while driving her Toyota 4-Runner, Turmelle hit Embree, who was riding an e-bike with her 16-month-old daughter, Delilah, who miraculously remained unharmed. Embree succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The prosecution argued that Turmelle was distracted and ran a stop sign, seeking a maximum one-year sentence. However, Turmelle’s attorney, Joni Eisenstein, contended there was no evidence of Turmelle using her phone while driving.
